The best day of the football season, and this is a hill I am willing to die on, is the first day of the football season.

Freshly mown grass, autumn sunshine - a sense of possibility. Not to mention, AFC Wimbledon invariably sit top of the table due to alphabetical superiority.

When it comes to the day job though, the day after the Budget is right up there. Primarily because this is the longest period of time before we have to endure next year’s one, along with the associated navel gazing and hand wringing.

If you have found yourself rattled in recent months by some of the more deranged reports of what was coming down the pipe yesterday, then I would urge you to re-evaluate where you get your news from.

Everyone’s selling something, the media sell our attention - 99% of it shouldn’t even be chip paper today.

Anyway, the Budget’s out of the way now and we know what we are dealing with. Rob Wakefield, Head of Personal Finance at Money Guided and I sat down this afternoon to chat through the headlines, the impact and the planning opportunities.

Give it a watch and let me know what you think. Have a great weekend.
